Responsibilities

Patient Services Manager III (Nurse Manager) of Emergency Department

Hours: 40hrs; Exempt

Shift: Monday-Friday, typically 8am-5pm; 24/7 accountability of unit operations

Location: Chapel Hill, NC

This position qualifies for full time benefits

The UNC Health Emergency Department is a designated Level I Pediatric and Adult Trauma Center serving as North Carolina’s primary referral hospital as well as also serving as the community hospital for Chapel Hill/ Orange County. UNC Hospitals is also recognized as a verified Burn Center, Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Chest Pain Center along with AHA Gold Level facility for the care of STEMI patients. 


The primary purpose of the manager is to ensure that appropriate care and services are available to professionals / paraprofessionals, which may include nursing staff, nursing assistants and health unit coordinators. This position is responsible for creating an environment conducive to recruiting and retaining staff while effectively using clinical and financial information to establish and meet budgetary goals. The manager is also responsible for ensuring internal and external regulatory standards of nursing practice are met, ensure high customer satisfaction, lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives and more. This position reports directly to an Associate Director and Director of Emergency Services with whom he/she collaborates for the operations, staff development, budgeting and strategic unit goals.  

The 97 bed Emergency Department is comprised of 32 behavioral health beds (with a separate dedicated manager). The remaining beds are organized utilizing a pod design with a team staffing format in the following functional areas:   

  • Main (Team A&B) with three trauma bays

  • Triage

  • Team D- currently being utilized as a dedicated area for COVID-19

  • SANE exam room

  • Pediatric

  • ED Transition Unit (Opening in Sept/Oct 2020)

Three to 5 years of nursing experience is strongly preferred, preferably in an academic center. Current certification as Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR required. ACLS/TNCC certification strongly preferred.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Professional certification (ANCC Magnet approved) relevant to Management, Leadership or Clinical Area is required within the probationary period of employment. Three (3) years of professional nursing in tertiary care and one (1) year of management experience in specialty area.
