New Graduate RN needed for Medicine Progressive Care Unit (MPCU)
Tentative start date: September, 2019
This opportunity is for new graduate RN's who are currently in their final semester of nursing school or who have graduated within the past 12 months of the anticipated start date and have worked as an RN for less than 6 months. It is expected that candidates will be eligible to practice as an RN in North Carolina prior to their first day of employment.
This position is 36 hours per week, day/night and weekend rotation, with self-scheduling to meet individual and department needs. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package including accruing up to 230 hours per year of PTO.
The Medicine Progressive Care Unit is a 24-bed unit that has expanded and relocated to a newly renovated area. Each of the renovated rooms have state-of-the-art equipment and promote efficiency and excellence in patient care. This unit receives patients with a wide range of medical and pulmonary diagnoses and has the capability to have up to six vented patients. Previous experience with vents and cardiac rhythm interpretation preferred but not required.
The MPCU has received the Silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence designated by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) The AACN created the Beacon designation to recognize individual units that have set a path to excellence in an effort to highlight critical care units that distinguish themselves in every facet of patient care. Recipients of a Beacon designation demonstrate excellence in sustained unit performance and patient outcomes.
New Graduate Nurses are part of the UNC Medical Center Residency Program (NRP). This program is a yearlong program supporting transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurses. The program is layered on top of orientation to provide mentored clinical relationships which support development as a professional nurse.Please remember to include your resume and a cover letter describing your interest in this opportunity.
Requires graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
Must be enrolled in an accredited program within four years of employment, if hired after January 6, 2014 and obtain a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in nursing within seven years of employment date.
Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina by the Board of Nursing prior to start date. Current healthcare provider BLS/CPR certification required.
