Responsibilities

Position: Clinical Nurse II
Hours: 36 hrs/wk
Shift: 12 hr shifts; D/N rotating to include weekends
Location: Chapel Hill, NC

The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) consists of eight (8) designated beds within a 20 bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).  Our team provides expert comprehensive cardiac care for our complex patient population from neonates to young adults experiencing life-threatening congenital and non-congenital cardiac anomalies and defects.  We meet the unique needs of this specialized population and their families by providing interdisciplinary care among nursing, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, pediatric intensivists and multiple specialty services. Nursing staff develops and maintains an extensive clinical skill set and cares for patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring, continuous inotropic medications, advanced respiratory support, continuous dialysis, heart transplantation and mechanical cardiac assist devices such as extracorporeal life support (ECMO) and ventricular assist devices (VAD).

Nurses will also be cross trained to care for complex pediatric medical and surgical patients in the PICU, including but not limited to: trauma, general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, ENT surgery, oncology, solid organ transplants, burns, and various medical specialties. 


Qualifications

Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. One (1) year of nursing experience. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled in an accredited program within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.

 

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
