Responsibilities



Nursing Assistant II for Emergency Department


The Emergency Department at UNC Hospitals cares for patients from minor illnesses and injuries to critical medical and trauma and ranging in ages neonates to elderly. The Emergency Departments 97 beds, comprised of the main ED, Behavioral Health ED and Pediatric ED, utilizes a team staffing format. The Nursing Assistant will rotate throughout the ED and the roles may vary to include greeter, triage, Pediatrics ED, BH ED, and work with Main ED to include trauma patients. Functions of the NA II, as part of the trauma team, includes but are not limited to obtaining vital signs in the care areas and the Waiting Room; Foley insertions; transport of patients; and sitting with behavioral health patients. Opportunities to be trained in phlebotomy and utilized within the Emergency Department. The Nursing Assistant provides direct and indirect care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.


This is a 36 hour/ week position with day/night/weekend rotations and flexible self-scheduling to meet the needs of the department. 



Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. Listed as Nursing Assistant II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Six (6) months related nursing assistant experience.
